CAT GOES ONLINE FROM THIS YEAR
IIM’s have declared that starting from this year CAT exam will be taken online. The exact pattern of conducting the exam is yet to be decided, but many people feel that it will follow the exam patterns of GMAT and GRE.
The IIM’s told that the process of conducting the exam will be outsourced to IT companies.
The main advantage will be the exam can be taken at different time according to the convenience of students.
“However, we are also considering other possibilities for conducting the CAT exams,” he added.
The move could benefit thousands of students. In 2007, around 230,000 students took the exams. This year the number is expected to exceed 300,000.
For online CAT exams, the IIMs could outsource the project to an IT firm specialising in education and training services.
“The company will provide us with the infrastructure, but the control of setting the question paper will remain with the IIMs. The company will also be allowed to conduct exams at its franchisees,” the professor said.
This move has mixed response from students. The more tech savvy students have welcomed the move but on the larger part many students are against CAT going online.
The best way to decide the outcome of this move is to “wait and watch”.
